This week our theme has been weather. It really has been neat to read about snowy, sunny, rainy and windy days! Today we focused on "wind". We started our day by reading, "Dora's windy day", and Pooh's " Blustery day". We did several experiments with our parachute to see if the "wind" would catch certain objects. Then, we had dryer sheets and threw them in the air and saw how the wind made them float. We did get off topic because they smelled, "so pretty" as Kadyn said it! Here are some pictures from our morning! We had a lot to fit in...
The kids getting ready for the "wind" art project...
I love how they all come to the table and show such excitement over what we are about to do! Even the young ones know we are about to do art!
Today's project was more a science experiment then art, but the end results are very abstract. We used water down paint on our papers, then used a blow dryer to simulate gusting wind. As the dryer was on the paint the paint splattered into many directions. The kids were so impressed that the paint traveled into many "trail"s (as J said). They enjoyed watching each others wind art to compare to see if they ended up looking a like or not! Lots of learning on such a simple project!
Even when it is colder, we still try to get a few minutes outside. Today we bundled up and played on the deck. The kids excited to play in the sand table. I was very impressed to hear discussions about the weather while we were outside!
