Little Miss Muffet...

Today we read all about Little Miss Muffet...

We took turns being Miss/Mr Muffet and reacting to a spider coming down on us! We have a great group of actors for sure... look out Broadway!

For our art/craft time, we colored Miss Muffet and her spider friend.

then we made them into the cutest finger puppets...

We also have been talking about the color of the week: purple. It was a "unannounced" purple day.

loves smiling and talking (even when it is nap time and she is still awake) ...

loves doing patty cake and clapping her hands...

and is perfect ... just like her shirt says!

Humpy Dumpty....

This week we are talking about nursery rhymes, just the basic ones we hear a lot. Today is Humpty Dumpty!

Today we made Humpty Dumpty eggs... we glued on all of our parts (which took forever- but we finished), then colored!

Let me just say, our Humpty Dumpty looks a little odd- kinda like if Mr. Potato Head and Humpty Dumpty would have mated- this could have been their child. But anyway- we enjoyed our story, cutting, gluing, and coloring this morning! Humpty just makes me smile!

Here is our "story" rhyme for the day.

All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again... (so we boiled him and ate him)

Okay- so I totally made that last part up- put you can't talked about Humpty and not have hard boiled eggs, I know, it's a little wrong.

We introduced a new color this week... we are working with the color purple.

Today we did a simple free art project. We used purple paper, purple markers, and purple crayons to make our creations.

During circle time, we took our basket around the house and found purple toys, books, and other items to put into the basket. While the older kids but items in our basket, some took them out!

I am so excited to start lacing cards... (I bought a set of fall ones with bonus points from Scholastic books- Thanks daycare parents for ordering). The kids were very excited to have a new table time activity to try! They picked it up very well.

Our other new table time activity (again from Scholastic) is pattern cards. At first we matched the pictures to the objects, that seems too easy. So, we talked about patterns and what picture would come next- this was a challenge for most but was so happy the interest and willingness to try was there.

On a side note- I received my rating/observation notes back. I am excited that I/we/daycare program improved by 6 points. Back in January of this year, I was given a 3-star rating. On the down side, I am one point short of bumping up to the next level, a 4- star rating. So, for another year I will be a 3-star daycare. I am happy with the improvement and feedback that was given. And most of all, I am excited to move on to the next step. So, until I get rated next year, I am calling my daycare a 3(one point away from a 4) star program!

Here are my answers:
1. My mom's stroke 6 years ago. It was physically, mentally, emotionally the most painful thing I have had go through!
2. I should just skip this question... by answering this, I might curse myself. If we ever had a boy, Dustin and I like Parker Neal. And, I am really not sure what girl name we would use since we have already used up my 4 favorites!
3. A glass divider between the kids in the back and myself- like they have in limos and in taxi's. Most days car rides are not a problem, but for the over tired, late evening rides when everyone is balling, I would love to push a button and have the kids sound proofed for a while.
4. I would name our house, "The money pit". It is going on 40 years old and it just needs maintenance done... new windows, paint, doors, ect. All of these projects of course cost a lot of money!!!
5. For this moment in my life, I am doing my dream job. I love being a child care provider. After some soul searching, I know I am where I am needed. I have best of both worlds, I bring home an income while staying at home with our children. In the feature when all of my kids are in school, I would love to work at their school- landing a job so I could have summers off with my kids, only downfall from my present job or, I would enjoy becoming a child care inspection worker.

Our book of the week is, "Over the River, a Turkey's Tale". Very cute rhyming book based off the song, "Over the river and through the woods". Very fun, bright pictures and fits perfectly with our November themes.

Not sure if you knew...;) but today is Election Day! We decided to vote as well. We talked about the basics. We discussed how mommies and daddies vote for people to make choices.

Today we had a ballet as well. We voted if we liked certain treats, what our favorites were, and if we should eat them again! The kids really had a fun time voting today. (And I used up some Halloween candy-yippy.)

I know we used treats to talk about voting- but I hope they saw the important message behind the activity and even spark up some conversations.

Just like adults, we received "I voted" stickers.

We used up the rest of our activity time mixing fall colors and finger painting.

Tomorrow we are reviewing the color purple and the diamond shape! Thanks for checking back!
